Dreaming Big with Clan Logan: A Journey of Heritage and Heart

Hello, Clan Logan family and friends! Can you believe it’s been 153 days (not that I’m counting!) since our historic Family and Highland Clan of Logan Convention in Scotland? What an unforgettable gathering that was—filled with laughter, connection, and the pride of our shared heritage. As we await the Lord Lyon King of Arms’ decision on my commission as Commander of Clan Logan (fingers crossed!), I’m thrilled to share the exciting updates and dreams that have been unfolding over the past five months. Buckle up—this is a story of passion, progress, and a bold vision for our clan’s future!

A Whirlwind of Clan Pride

The last five months have been nothing short of a whirlwind for Clan Logan. We’ve been making waves across the globe, showcasing our vibrant spirit and rich history. Here’s a quick rundown of our recent adventures:

  • Inverness Highland Games, Scotland: For the first time in modern history, Clan Logan shone brightly at a Scottish Highland Games, thanks to the incredible Tricia Logan Locke. Her Clan Logan tent was a masterpiece of informative displays and eye-catching setups, earning rave reviews from hosts and visitors alike. Tricia’s passion for our heritage is truly inspiring—she’s a rockstar!
  • Fergus, Ontario, Canada: Across the pond, Steven Logan worked his magic at the Fergus Highland Games. His beautifully curated clan tent caught the eye of none other than the Lord Lyon King of Arms, who stopped by to admire Steven’s detailed displays of our clan’s history. Talk about a proud moment!
  • West Virginia’s “Wild and Wonderful” Highland Games: Our Clan Convener, Ed Logan, led the charge as Clan Logan was named the Honor Clan of the year! Over 15 Logans marched proudly under the banner of George Logan of that Ilk during the parade of clans—a record turnout that showcased our growing unity.
  • St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit Highland Festival: Marking a decade of hosting a clan tent, my wife Lisa and I were overjoyed to receive the prestigious Nisbet Cup for Best Clan Tent. Watching my sons don their 21st Century Logan tartan kilts for the first time made this a weekend to cherish forever.

These moments are more than just events—they’re the heartbeat of our clan, proof of our commitment to reviving the legacy of Clan Logan as an honored, ancient Scottish clan.

A Dream Worth Sharing: Culross Abbey

Now, let’s talk about some really big news—a dream so big it could change the course of our clan’s future. During our Clan Logan Meets Outlander day trip after the convention, about 30 of us visited the historic Culross Abbey. There, we were treated to a breathtaking performance by our very own Crawford Logan, who brought to life the fiery sermons of Reverend Allan Logan, a minister at Culross from 1718 until his death in 1733. Here’s where the connection to Clan Logan deepens: Allan, the second son of our original armiger, George Logan of that Ilk, later became Chief of the Name and Arms of Logan when his elder brother passed without a legitimate heir. Talk about deep roots!

Here’s where things get exciting for the clan. On August 28th, Tricia shared a bombshell on Clan Logan Society International’s Facebook page: Culross Abbey is for sale by the Church of Scotland.

Yes, you read that right—THE Culross Abbey, a place steeped in Logan history, was now available to purchase.

The moment I heard the news, I started dreaming. And it turns out, I wasn’t alone! After several quick weeks of research, planning, and heartfelt discussions with Clan Logan Charitable Trust, we took a bold step: the Trust submitted a bid to purchase Culross Abbey. That’s right—Clan Logan is in the running to own this historic gem, a place that could serve as our spiritual and cultural home in Scotland. We’re one of 16 bids, so the competition is fierce, but oh, what a dream to chase!

Why Culross Abbey?

Culross Abbey isn’t just a beautiful building with stunning views of the Culross coastline—it’s a living link to our past. Reverend Allan Logan’s legacy there is a testament to our clan’s enduring presence in Scotland. Owning the abbey would give Clan Logan a place to gather, celebrate, and preserve our heritage for generations to come. Imagine hosting clan events, sharing our history with the world, and standing on the same ground where Allan Logan once preached. It’s a vision that makes me so very excited for the clan!

A Clan Effort

This dream wouldn’t be possible without the incredible teamwork of our clan. My fellow trustees, Tricia and Linda, have been all-in from the start, and new Trust members John A. Logan of Raleigh and Caleb E. Logan of San Diego provided invaluable insights for our bid. A special shoutout goes to Ross McEwen, a dear friend of the clan, who made a day trip to Culross to gather photos and intel. Together, we’re making this happen.

While we wait for the Church of Scotland to review the bids—a process that could take months—the Clan Logan Charitable Trust is gearing up for fundraising efforts to ensure we’re ready if our bid is chosen. This is a clan-wide mission, and I’m inviting every one of you to join us. Daydream, nightdream, pray, send good vibes—whatever fuels your excitement, let’s come together around this incredible opportunity. (Don’t worry, we’ll talk about donations soon enough!)

A Year of Dreams Coming True

If 2025 has taught us anything, it’s that Clan Logan is a force to be reckoned with. From Highland Games to historic bids, we’re writing a new chapter in our clan’s story—one filled with pride, connection, and ambition. Whether we’re marching in parades, winning awards, or dreaming of a home at Culross Abbey, we’re proving that Clan Logan is back and stronger than ever.

So, here’s my ask: keep the faith, share the excitement, and let’s dream big together. Culross Abbey could be our chance to plant a flag for Clan Logan in Scotland—a place to call home, a legacy to pass down. Stay tuned for updates, and let’s keep the momentum going!
